William “Chaz” Monroe Smith, 82, of Princeton passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at his son’s home surrounded by family.
Chaz was born on September 11, 1941 in Princeton, IL the son of William Clarence and Mary Zeta (Lampkin) Smith. He was a Malden High School graduate. Chaz married Armenta “June” Dorff on November 5, 1966 in Princeton. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2007.
He owned and operated his own truck known as William Smith Trucking for many years prior to his retirement in 2005. Chaz also farmed with his father-in-law and later his own small farm. He cherished spending time with his family and was always up for a good card game. Chaz enjoyed meeting up with his friends to drink coffee and also enjoyed working in his yard or in his shop. He could fix anything. Chaz will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his two children, Bill (Michele VanderMeersch) Smith of Princeton, Michelle “Shelly” (Michael) Simon of Naperville; four grandchildren, Jacob (Jenna) Smith, Paige Smith, Maia Simon and Michael Simon; two siblings, Jim (Susan) Smith of Hampton, NH and Louise Steele of Marshal.
Chaz was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Mary and Regina Smith and brother-in-law, Homer Steele.
Private Graveside Services will be held at Mound Cemetery in Milo Township with Pastor Kurt Smith, officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Princeton Moose Lodge, 1339 N Euclid Ave, Princeton, IL 61356 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
