Shirley Jean Schmidt, 89

October 26, 1934 to March 17, 2024

10-26-1934 - 3-17-2024

Shirley Jean Schmidt, 89, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 17, at Liberty Village in Princeton, with her family by her side.

She was born on October 26, 1934 in Morocco, Indiana to Leslie and Dorothy Becker. They later moved to LaMoille and raised their five children.

Shirley married the love of her life, Douglas Schmidt, on November 29, 1953. They had two daughters, whom they raised in Princeton.

Together they owned Smitty’s Gas, Elm City Cab Taxi Service, and Schmidt Auction Service. She worked at the Bureau County Courthouse for many years, Hudson’s Cleaning Service and other various jobs.

Shirley spent much of her time volunteering with the Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, where she was involved in Esther Circle and Quilters group. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bridge with her dear friends, fishing on Lake Taneycomo, playing cards with anyone who would accept the challenge, and bragging about her children and grandchildren.  She always made time for a daily walk and rarely missed her 3pm glass of wine.  You could always find her watching the Price is Right at 10am and Wheel of Fortune at 6pm.

She is survived by her two daughters, Debra (Robert) Harrison of Princeton and Jodi (Steve) Krivinchuk of Stone Lake, WI; five granddaughters, Torri (Duane) Price of Sheffield, Megan (Josh) Michel of Ankeny, IA; Cortney Elliott of Spooner, WI; Paige (Michael) Petersen of Princeton, and Olivia (Nolan) Fritz of Wyanet; ten great grandchildren, Austin, Gavin, Tesslyn, Colson, Daelyn, Nyla, Piper, Ridge, Westin and Revi; two brothers, Fred Becker of St. Anne and Bruce (Trudy) Becker of Arlington.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Ron Becker, and sister Ruth Ann Zweep.
