Daniel J. "DJ" Jenkins, 89, of Princeton passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Heritage Manor in LaSalle.

Born Feb. 7, 1923, in Princeton to Daniel C. and Blanche (Mitchell) Jenkins, he married Beverly J. Loney July 24, 1952, in Princeton, She died Dec. 1, 1988.

He was a graduate of Princeton High School. He worked at Champion Pneumatic Machinery Company in Princeton for 39 years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Princeton, Princeton Elks, Princeton Moose Lodge, Princeton V.F.W. Post 4323 and Princeton American
Legion Post 125. He served in the U.S. Army as a private first class with the 135th Infantry 34 Division during World War II.

Surviving are one daughter, Diane (Goodwin) Toraason of Peru; one son, John (Sally) Jenkins of Peru; six grandchildren, Danny Toraason, Becky (Jesse) Griswold, Maggie Toraason, Abby Toraason, Eric Jenkins and Kyle Jenkins; one sister, Pearl Heward of Sherman; one sister-in-law, Joann York of Glendale, Ariz.; a special friend, Clara Pease of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. John Olinger officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton, with military rites conducted by Princeton American Legion Post 125.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Dick DeBord and Bob Brophy.
