Gerald Dean McCoy, 73

March 12, 1944 to January 14, 2018

Gerald Dean McCoy, 73, of Sheffield passed away at 12:38 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born March 12, 1944, in Kewanee, the son of Garland and Bernice (Williams) McCoy. He married Cheryl Oleson Nov. 18, 1967, in Mineral. She survives in Sheffield.

He graduated from Manlius High School with the Class of 1962. He had several jobs throughout his life, including Neponset Grain Elevator, Kory’s Farm Implement of Manlius and many construction jobs.

He loved going to the sale barn and raising animals.

Also surviving areseven children, Robert Oleson of Kewanee, Brenda McCoy of Wyanet, Bernadine McCoy of Sheffield, Randy McCoy of Garber, Iowa, Barbara McCoy of Sheffield, Rich McCoy of Peoria and Ronnie McCoy of Mineral; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Buddy McCoy of Sheffield; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Brian Moore officiating. Burial, with military rites conducted by Sheffield American Legion Post 415, will be in the Sheffield Cemetery in Sheffield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Sheffield Rescue Unit.

Pallbearers will be Brenda McCoy, Bernadine McCoy, Randy McCoy, Barbara McCoy, Rich McCoy and Ronnie McCoy.
