Mary Jo Sims, 65

April 6, 1951 to January 22, 2017

Mary Jo Sims, 65, of Palatine, formerly of Princeton and Manlius, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Little Sisters of the Poor in Palatine.

She was born April 6, 1951, in Louisville, Ky, the daughter of Oliver and Estelle (Meyer) Alpaugh. She married Edward Sims on Feb. 10, 1973, at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton. He survives.

She graduated from Manlius High School, Class of 1969, and received an associates degree in library technology from Sauk Valley Community College. She was employed by John F. Kennedy School in Spring Valley and Home Care Aid for Addus Health Care for 19 years.

She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton and the Evangelism Committee. Mary Jo was a a devoted wife and mother.

Also surviving are four daughters, Olivia (Dean Jordan) Sims of Princeton, Nancy (George) Neuhalfen of Malden, Paula (John) Kurt of Riverside, Iowa, and Sister Andrea Rose Sims of France; two sons, Emmet (Hazel) Sims of Compton and Wesley Andrew Sims of Mendota; eight grandchildren, David Neuses and Elizabeth (Steve Jordan) Neuses of Princeton, Jenah, Cora and Evelyn Sims of Compton, Allyxis Marie Sims of Princeton, and Peter and Isaac Kurt of Riverside, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Natalia and Michael Jordan of Princeton; one sister, Marsha (Ed) Holstrom of Bettendorf, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial luncheon will be held at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton for the public after a private graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Manlius Cemetery in Manlius. Pastor Scott Schmidt will officiate at the service. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be in the Manlius Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton, Little Sisters of the Poor in Palatine or the Parkinson's Association.
